Nawaz Sharif, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, has accepted a new position within the government led by his daughter, Maryam Nawaz, in the Punjab province. In this role, he has been appointed as the patron-in-chief of the Lahore Authority for Heritage Revival (LAHR), where he will be responsible for overseeing the restoration of numerous colonial-era buildings in Lahore. The Punjab administration has officially appointed him to this position, indicating a significant shift from his previous political role.

The appointment has drawn scorn from political rivals, particularly from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, led by jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The government has recognized over 100 structures as historical heritage sites. In his new capacity, Nawaz has advocated for a comprehensive restoration plan from the Walled City Authority of Lahore, emphasizing the importance of preserving Lahore’s historical beauty and considering it a national duty.
