INS Tushil Completes Historic Port Visit to Dakar, Senegal

INS Tushil, the Indian Navy’s new frigate, successfully concluded its first port visit to Dakar, Senegal. During the three-day visit, naval cooperation and maritime security were prioritized. Activities included a Subject Matter Expert Exchange, joint Yoga sessions, and a Passage Exercise with Senegalese naval forces. The visit highlights enhanced relations and security initiatives between India and Senegal.

INS Tushil, the Indian Navy’s newest guided missile stealth frigate, has successfully completed its inaugural port visit to Dakar, Senegal. This visit, which lasted three days, aimed to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. Captain Peter Varghese of INS Tushil engaged in discussions with Rear Admiral Abdou Sene, the Chief of Staff of the Senegalese Navy, focusing on enhancing naval cooperation and collaborative maritime security initiatives.

Throughout this visit, INS Tushil hosted a Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE), displaying the Indian Navy’s NISHAR – MITRA terminal. Additionally, Navy personnel participated in a joint Yoga session with the Yoga Association of Senegal. The ship welcomed approximately 150 visitors from both the Indian diaspora and the local community, highlighting the growing presence of the Indian Navy in the West African region.

The visit culminated with a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) conducted with the Senegalese naval vessel, PHM Niani, prior to the ship’s departure. This engagement signifies the importance of cooperative efforts in fostering regional security and marks a notable advancement in the interoperability between the Indian and Senegalese navies.

The visit of INS Tushil to Dakar underscores the Indian Navy’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Senegal. Through engagement in maritime security initiatives and cultural exchanges, the visit promotes cooperation in naval operations. The successful Passage Exercise with Senegalese naval forces further highlights the intent to enhance interoperability and collaborative security efforts in the region.
