This event marked the conclusion of the IV International Colloquium “Patria,” which focused on key issues surrounding media and communication.
The colloquium featured significant discussions, including panels on “Reprogramming the Net,” directed by José Manzaneda of Cubainformación, aimed at addressing strategies to combat polarization and hate speech online, and “Technologies for Emancipation,” presented by Jorge Arreaza and Sacha Llorenti. These sessions emphasized the importance of communication sovereignty in the Global South.
Renowned experts such as Pascual Serrano, Carlos Penalva, Alina Duarte, and Gabriela Rivadeneira were among the speakers discussing the Global South’s strategies to counter Western information hegemony, the role of media as political instruments, and modern consumption patterns in the digital age.
With the theme “We Are Peoples Weaving Networks,” the IV International Colloquium “Patria” successfully attracted nearly 500 participants from over 40 countries, facilitating substantial dialogue on left-wing political communication against a background of media warfare.
