Argentina Supports Conclusion of Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Talks

Argentina has welcomed the conclusion of peace treaty negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, expressing hope for regional stability. Despite the successful talks, tensions have arisen due to Azerbaijan’s unfounded accusations against Armenia. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has reiterated readiness to sign the agreement.

Argentina has expressed its satisfaction regarding the conclusion of negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan concerning a peace agreement. In an official statement, the Argentine Foreign Ministry emphasized the importance of achieving a comprehensive peace deal and commended both nations for their dedication to resolving ongoing disputes peacefully.

The ministry highlighted its hopes that the successful negotiations will foster development and improve the welfare of both countries while contributing to stability and prosperity in the South Caucasus region. On March 13, Armenia and Azerbaijan had announced the successful conclusion of their peace treaty discussions.

However, tensions resurfaced shortly after the announcement, as Azerbaijan launched a significant disinformation campaign, accusing Armenia of attacking its military positions along the border. The Armenian military has categorically denied these allegations, and the EU monitoring mission in Armenia has also refuted reports of border shootings. Azerbaijan has compounded tensions by introducing preconditions, including demands for changes to the Armenian constitution based on unfounded territorial claims and the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group.

On March 20, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reaffirmed Armenia’s willingness to sign the peace agreement with Azerbaijan, indicating a potential path forward amidst the ongoing challenges.
