Pakistan’s happiness ranking in the World Happiness Report 2025 has dropped to 109th, still higher than India and Afghanistan. Globally, Finland ranks as the happiest country, while the US and UK see declines. The report emphasizes social support and other factors vital for happiness.

In the recently published World Happiness Report 2025, Pakistan’s ranking has declined to 109th, down from its previous position of 108th. Nevertheless, Pakistan still holds a more favorable position compared to its regional counterparts, India and Afghanistan, which are ranked 118th and 147th, respectively. This report, associated with Gallup and its partners, evaluates the happiness levels of 147 countries through population surveys focusing on quality of life from 2022 to 2024.

Within South Asia, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are positioned at 133rd and 134th, respectively, while Iran, which accommodates 3.9% of the refugee population, performs slightly better at 99th. China emerges as the leader in Asia with a notable ranking of 27th.

Globally, Finland has maintained its status as the happiest nation, trailed by Denmark and Iceland. The top 15 happiest countries also include Sweden, the Netherlands, Costa Rica, and Norway. Conversely, both the United States and the United Kingdom have experienced significant decreases in their rankings, with the United States dropping to 24th, its lowest ever, and the United Kingdom falling to 23rd, marking its lowest position since 2017.

At the lower end of the happiness spectrum, countries such as Sierra Leone, Lebanon, Malawi, and Zimbabwe are identified as some of the least happy nations. The report underscores various influential factors on happiness, including social support, income levels, personal freedoms, life expectancy, and corruption. Particularly emphasized this year is the importance of compassion and generosity in enhancing overall well-being.

This year’s World Happiness Report reveals Pakistan’s slight decline in its global happiness ranking. Despite this drop, Pakistan remains more favorable than its neighboring countries. The report highlights key factors that influence happiness, noting the role of societal support and personal freedoms as essential components of citizens’ well-being.
