The World Happiness Report 2025, released annually on March 20 to coincide with the International Day of Happiness, has been published, revealing Finland as the happiest country for the eighth consecutive year. Within the context of Central Asia, Kazakhstan has emerged with the highest ranking among its regional peers.
The ranking evaluates various factors, including gross domestic product per capita, life expectancy, social support, personal freedom, levels of corruption, and the generosity of the population. The standings for Central Asian countries are as follows:
– Kazakhstan: 43rd position, an improvement of six places.
– Uzbekistan: 53rd position, a decline of six places.
– Kyrgyzstan: 75th position, unchanged status.
– Tajikistan: 90th position, an upward movement of two places.
– Turkmenistan: Not ranked.
Notably, the United States did not secure a place in the top ten, ranking 24th. Russia improved by six places to achieve the 66th position, whereas Ukraine fell six places to find itself in the 111th position. Afghanistan has been designated as the unhappiest country, languishing in 147th place, alongside Sierra Leone, Lebanon, Malawi, and Zimbabwe, which also rank low in the report.
