Houthi Group Claims Successful Missile Strike on Ben Gurion Airport
Yahya Saree, Houthi spokesperson, announced a successful missile strike on Ben Gurion Airport using a hypersonic missile. Israeli reports indicated a plane had to change its course due to sirens, while the missile was intercepted in Israeli airspace, conflicting with earlier military claims. Sirens activated caused evacuations and injuries in Israel.
On Thursday, Yahya Saree, the military spokesperson for the Houthi group, announced that their missile forces successfully targeted Ben Gurion Airport in the Yafa area using a hypersonic ballistic missile named Palestine 2. The operation reportedly achieved its intended objectives, according to the Houthi statement.
Israeli Channel 12 disclosed that a plane arriving from London had to alter its approach shortly before landing at Ben Gurion Airport due to sirens sounding in Tel Aviv. Following this alert, airport operations briefly halted but later resumed.
The missile launched from Yemen was intercepted by Israeli defense forces after it entered their airspace. This contradicts the Israeli military’s claim that interception occurred before the missile crossed into their airspace.
The Israeli Home Front confirmed that the sirens were activated across Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and central Israel as soon as the missile was detected. In response to the alert, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was evacuated to a secure area while attending a Knesset session concerning 2025 budget legislation.
Israeli emergency services reported that 13 individuals sustained injuries while seeking shelter following the missile alert resulting from the incident.
The Houthi group’s missile operation targeting Ben Gurion Airport has prompted a multifaceted response from Israeli authorities, including alterations in air traffic and evacuations of key officials. Despite claims from the Israeli military about interception prior to airspace entry, the situation continues to unfold with reported injuries among civilians.
