Nalyvaychenko emphasized Saudi Arabia’s pivotal role in the global energy landscape, particularly highlighting its position within the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). He remarked, “Saudi Arabia is a key country in terms of energy and global oil prices, especially within OPEC.” Nalyvaychenko noted that under former President Trump, Saudi Arabia solidified its status as a reliable ally of the United States.

According to Nalyvaychenko, Saudi Arabia possesses substantial leverage over Russia, particularly concerning its oil and gas sectors, potentially surpassing any other nation in this respect. “Saudi Arabia has at least, if not more, leverage over Russia, particularly over the Russian oil and gas economy and supply, compared to anyone else in the world,” he explained.

He further pointed out Saudi Arabia’s dominant position in the Middle East, establishing that other neighboring nations such as Qatar, Bahrain, and the UAE view Saudi Arabia as a major ally, enhancing its economic and energy influence in the region.

The significance of Saudi Arabia as a neutral ground for diplomatic discussions was underscored by the impending meeting scheduled for March 23, where U.S. and Russian representatives will gather to negotiate the cessation of strikes targeting energy and civilian infrastructure amidst the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
