Nust and MTC Launch Namibia’s First Bloomberg Finance Lab

The Namibia University of Science and Technology, along with MTC and the Namibia Investment and Finance Academy, launched the first Bloomberg Finance Lab in Namibia, aimed at enhancing financial education. The initiative seeks to empower youth, SMEs, and emerging financial professionals while bridging the gap between theory and practice in finance, promoting digital transformation and inclusion.

The Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust), in collaboration with Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) and the Namibia Investment and Finance Academy, unveiled the nation’s inaugural Bloomberg Finance Lab on Tuesday. This initiative aims to enhance the financial acumen of students and professionals in Namibia, paving the way for more informed economic practices.

Emma Kantema-Goamas, the Deputy Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service, emphasized the lab’s significance for Namibia’s financial professionals, stating, “This lab will serve as a cornerstone for empowering youth, SMEs, and the next generation of investment leaders, enhancing their ability to access funding, manage risk, and build sustainable enterprises that drive economic transformation.”

Nust’s Vice Chancellor Erold Naomab expressed pride in the project, stating that the Bloomberg Finance Lab fits well within the university’s mission to produce skilled graduates ready for modern economic demands. He noted, “The Bloomberg Finance Lab will bridge the gap between theoretical learning and real-world application, ensuring our graduates are competitive on a global scale.”

Thinus Smit, CFO of MTC, highlighted the lab’s role as an academic resource and industry facilitator, underscoring its potential to promote financial inclusion and innovation in fintech. He remarked, “This collaboration speaks to the importance of digital transformation in shaping Namibia’s financial sector.”

The establishment of the Bloomberg Finance Lab at Nust marks a significant advancement in enhancing financial education and accessibility in Namibia.
