The Iraqi Embassy in Libya successfully secured the release of two Iraqi citizens detained for illegal migration after extensive efforts. Al-Sahhaf highlighted the embassy’s provision of medical services and facilitation for their return to Iraq. The embassy continues to warn potential migrants about the perils of human trafficking networks and emphasizes ongoing initiatives for migrant safety.

Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, the Charge d’Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in Libya, announced on Wednesday the successful release of two Iraqi nationals detained for illegal migration. Al-Sahhaf stated that the Iraqi Embassy in Tripoli collaborated with relevant authorities of the Government of National Unity in Libya, culminating in this release after forty days of diligent efforts.

He emphasized that the embassy’s coordination was complex but ultimately preserved the lives of the detained individuals, who had been victims of human smuggling networks. Following their release, the embassy provided medical assistance and issued laissez-passer passports to facilitate their voluntary return to Iraq.

Al-Sahhaf also noted that the embassy had successfully liberated dozens of Iraqi migrants during 2024 and early 2025. He cautioned young migrants through official communication channels about the dangers posed by human trafficking networks and reiterated the embassy’s commitment to ensuring the safe return of additional migrants to Iraq.

The Iraqi Embassy in Libya has demonstrated a commitment to safeguarding the well-being of its citizens abroad. Through coordinated efforts, they successfully secured the release of two Iraqi nationals while continuing to advise against the risks of illegal migration. This initiative reflects the embassy’s ongoing dedication to supporting Iraqi migrants and facilitating their safe return to their homeland.
