Ethiopia Confirms Participation in the VIII Congress of World Religious Leaders

Ambassador Barlybay Sadykov of Kazakhstan recently met with Like Tiguhan Tagay Tadele, Secretary-General of the Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia, to discuss collaborative efforts in interreligious and intercultural dialogue between the two nations.

During the meeting, Ambassador Sadykov presented details regarding Kazakhstan’s interreligious dialogue initiatives and provided information about the Congress, which will occur in Astana in September 2025. Secretary-General Tadele expressed his appreciation for the invitation and confirmed his attendance, commending Kazakhstan’s dedication to fostering peace, tolerance, and dialogue among different religions and cultures.

At the conclusion of the meeting, representatives from the Ethiopian side extended their best wishes for the successful organization of the Congress. They highlighted the event as a critical platform for encouraging constructive dialogue and enhancing global interreligious interactions.

Ethiopia boasts a rich cultural and religious heritage; Christianity has been entrenched since the 4th century, and Islam since the 7th century. Currently, Ethiopia’s population exceeds 125 million, comprising approximately 44% Christians (predominantly Ethiopian Orthodox), 34% Muslims, and 23% Evangelicals. In 2010, the Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia (IRCE) was established to unite the main religious groups in the country, aiming to sustain religious freedom, harmony, and overall well-being.
