Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Welcomes Delegations From Central Allies

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Taiwan has officially welcomed the visits from parliamentary delegations representing Guatemala, Ireland, and the Marshall Islands. This gesture reflects the importance of strengthening ties with these nations, which are considered allies and like-minded partners of Taiwan. The delegation from the Marshall Islands, led by Brenson Wase, the Speaker of the Nitijela, includes senators Bruce Loeak, Jack Ading, and Wilbur Heine. After a warm reception at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on July 11, the group’s schedule consists of meetings with President Lai Ching-te, an evening banquet hosted by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung, and engagements with key local officials, taking place over six days.

Following the Marshall Islands’ delegation, an Irish parliamentary group arrived on July 14, headed by Diarmuid Wilson, the Deputy Chair of the Senate’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence. This delegation, comprising senators Garret Ahearn, Gerard Craughwell, Gerry Horkan, and Sharon Keogan, will have a range of meetings including an audience with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim and engagements at various government ministries, with plans to explore notable Taiwanese sites.

Arriving on July 15, the Guatemalan delegation is led by Congress President Nery Abilio Ramos y Ramos, joined by members such as César Amézquita and Karina Paz. Their five-day visit aims to strengthen relations through various meetings, including discussions with President Lai and visits to essential agencies, alongside cultural and economic landmark tours.

According to the MOFA, Taiwan has established profound cooperative ties with the Marshall Islands focusing on infrastructure, healthcare, and women’s empowerment. Additionally, Taiwan collaborates with Guatemala on agricultural technology and higher education. The MOFA acknowledges the valuable support from the delegations regarding Taiwan’s aspirations for participation in global organizations, affirming the commitment to enhancing relationships with allies.
