Qatar and Egypt Unite in Call for Ceasefire Amid Israeli Airstrikes

In response to Israel’s recent airstrikes in Gaza, which have ended a temporary ceasefire, both Qatar and Egypt have urgently called for a return to truce talks. They have publicly denounced what they term Israeli “escalation” of military actions, with other regional nations echoing similar sentiments of concern regarding Israel’s approach.

The Foreign Ministry of Qatar issued a statement condemning the airstrikes. It cautioned that these “escalating policies will ultimately ignite the region and undermine its security and stability,” as reported by News.Az citing The Times of Israel.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Prime Minister of Qatar, has been vocal in demanding immediate international intervention to enforce a ceasefire and encourage Israel to adhere to the ceasefire agreement established in January.

According to a former Egyptian official quoted by the Washington Post, Qatar and Egypt are collaborating to facilitate negotiations for a renewed ceasefire. They intend to connect swiftly with Israeli representatives to organize urgent meetings in Cairo to advance discussions regarding hostages and peace initiatives.

Reports indicate that recent diplomatic activities included an Israeli delegation visiting Cairo for ceasefire discussions, while another team was engaged in talks in Doha. This ongoing dialogue follows a previous ceasefire agreement that resulted in the exchange of hostages on January 19, involving Israeli captives for Palestinian security prisoners.

Despite the expiration of the first phase of the ceasefire deal on March 1, fighting had not escalated significantly, although challenges arose with Israel blocking aid into Gaza after the cessation of these negotiations.

Both Qatar and Egypt are advocating for a return to ceasefire negotiations following Israel’s airstrikes on Gaza. Qatar condemns the military actions and urges international pressure for compliance with peace agreements.
