Malaysia to Accept 15 Palestinian Fighters Under Gaza Ceasefire Agreement

Malaysia is prepared to accept 15 Palestinian fighters released by Israel as part of a Gaza ceasefire agreement. On March 18, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, the Foreign Minister of Malaysia, announced the nation’s readiness to accept 15 Palestinian freedom fighters released by Israel, in accordance with the Gaza ceasefire agreement. He emphasized Malaysia’s long-standing support for Palestine’s quest for independence, stating the decision would not impose undue burden on the country.

Mohamad mentioned that these fighters, who have been imprisoned by Israel without trial for periods ranging from 20 to 30 years, will not be permitted to return to Palestine after their release. Malaysia is committed to the peace efforts negotiated by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States.

During a Khatam al-Quran event in Seremban, he highlighted that a team had been dispatched to determine which individuals will be relocated to Malaysia and that their resettlement locations would be finalized subsequently. This initiative will mirror the approach taken when Syrian refugees were welcomed into Malaysia during the onset of their civil war.

He urged the Malaysian public to refrain from harboring negative perceptions regarding the acceptance of the fighters, clarifying that it aligns with Malaysia’s international responsibilities. Mohamad pointed out the generous contributions of the Malaysian people, noting that the Humanitarian Trust Fund for Palestinians has accrued RM99 million, reflecting the nation’s compassion.
