Kyrgyzstan Welcomes Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Treaty Negotiation Progress

The Kyrgyz Republic welcomes the completion of negotiations on a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Kyrgyzstan praises the significant step toward establishing constructive relations and supports long-term peace in the South Caucasus. The Kyrgyz Republic has expressed its approval of the recent statements from both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Armenia regarding the finalization of negotiations on a draft peace agreement. This initiative marks an essential step toward the establishment of constructive interstate relations, as highlighted by the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry.

Kyrgyzstan conveyed its support for the parties’ efforts to achieve a peace agreement, signifying a historic milestone in Armenia-Azerbaijan relations. The Foreign Ministry emphasized the importance of long-term peace and stability within the South Caucasus, noting the positive developments in the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Additionally, Armenia has indicated its willingness to discuss the terms for signing the peace agreement with Azerbaijan. The Armenian Foreign Ministry confirmed that both sides agree on the draft peace treaty, ready to initiate consultations on the signing arrangements while addressing the remaining disputed points.

Previously, negotiations had been stalled for months over two critical issues pertaining to the peace agreement: the mutual withdrawal of legal claims and an agreement concerning the presence of third-party forces along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. The continuation of the peace process follows the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, culminating in Azerbaijan regaining full control over the territory in 2023.
