Egypt has initiated a significant program to aid 10 million families registered on ration cards, with a total budget of EGP 4 billion. This initiative, reviewed by the Minister of Finance, Ahmed Kouchouk, and Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Sherif Farouk, aims to provide additional financial support to vulnerable households as part of a larger social protection strategy.

According to a joint statement from the relevant ministries, EGP 2 billion from the government’s supplementary financial allocations will be dedicated to this initiative. The funds will be utilized by the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade to dispense EGP 125 for households on single-person ration cards and EGP 250 for cards with two or more members, covering the months of March and April.

Beginning today, the distribution of these funds will commence, directly benefitting approximately 10 million families in need. This initiative represents a key effort to reinforce social safety nets and alleviate the financial stress experienced by Egypt’s most disadvantaged citizens.
