Disruption at ZNLWVA Press Conference by Unidentified Youths in Bulawayo

A press conference by the ZNLWVA in Bulawayo was interrupted by unidentified youths claiming they had booked the venue. ZNLWVA’s chairman, Ethan Mathibela, confirmed police approval for their meeting. Following the disruption, the veterans moved outside to continue their address, and a protest is planned to address the economic crisis and government accountability.

In Bulawayo, an important press conference held by the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) was disrupted by a group of unidentified youths who claimed to have reserved the same venue for their business meeting. The group, which refused to disclose their identities, asserted their affiliation with Youth Connect. Their leader stated, “We are not here to provoke anyone, but we are here for our own meeting. We have our own business to attend to, just like you.”

Ethan Mathibela, the chairman of ZNLWVA, clarified that they had informed the police about the press conference and had received official approval. He mentioned, “We have clearance from the police headquarters. I personally delivered the letter, which was accepted by the Commissioner General. Now, I am seeing these guys here.” Following the disruption, the war veterans relocated outside, where Mathibela continued to address the media under police protection.

During this situation, one of the disruptive individuals seized Mathibela’s ZNLWA branded cap, resulting in police intervention and the removal of that individual. Furthermore, the ZNLWVA has alerted the police regarding their upcoming protest scheduled for this Thursday. They intend to highlight the economic crisis and to demand accountability from the government, as well as an end to corruption, tribalism, nepotism, and poor governance.

The ZNLWVA’s press conference faced disruption from unidentified youths asserting their own claims to the meeting space. Despite the interference, Mathibela maintained communication with the media under police supervision. The ZNLWVA also plans to stage a protest to address critical issues such as economic decline and governance failures in Zimbabwe, seeking accountability and reform.
