Bodies Discovered in Khartoum Well Amid Ongoing Sudan Conflict

Abdul-Rahanan Mohamed Hassan, head of the civil defense team in Khartoum, stated that the search began following reports from residents concerning a deceased individual found in the well.

Hassan noted the diversity of the bodies recovered, stating, “We discovered various bodies inside this well, including males, females, adults, and children.” The investigation to find additional remains continues. Officials suspect that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) murdered these individuals and disposed of their bodies in the well while the group held control over the area. The military has since regained control as part of a broader offensive in Khartoum and Omdurman.

As of the latest reports, there has been no response from the RSF regarding these allegations. A local resident, Afraa al-Hajj Omar, described the RSF’s violent actions, claiming they had killed numerous people in the region, often leaving the bodies on the streets for extensive periods. “They robbed us, beat us, and tortured us,” Omar stated, shedding light on the ongoing violence.

The conflict in Sudan has led to significant loss of life, with estimates indicating at least 20,000 deaths, while the true number is likely higher. Additionally, over 14 million individuals have been displaced, amid reports of famine in certain areas.
