Don Dante Carraro, the director of Doctors with Africa Cuamm, highlighted UCM’s community connections, underscoring the importance of research and expertise in aiding the poorest populations. Professor Alberto Mantovani, who has frequently taught at the university, remarked on the significance of knowledge creation and sharing.

Bishop Claudio Dalla Zuanna of Beira emphasized that UCM nurtures minds for academic excellence and humanitarian service. He articulated that a university must engage with societal challenges, echoing the sentiment of Pope Francis about the essential role of educational institutions in society.

Situated approximately 1,500 kilometers from Maputo, UCM has become the second major university campus in Mozambique. Following its establishment, the Faculty of Medicine opened, driven by the partnership with Doctors with Africa Cuamm and local health authorities. The commitment to the UCM Medical School has expanded since the introduction of courses in 2004, culminating in the graduation of the first doctors in Beira on August 25, 2007, a milestone for the nation, according to Rector Father Alberto Ferreira.
