A suicide car bomber targeted buses carrying security forces in Naushki, Balochistan, on Sunday, killing five and injuring ten others. The Baloch Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the attack, amid ongoing tensions in the region. Retaliatory measures by security forces resulted in the deaths of four attackers, following previous escalations involving hostage situations and violence.
On Sunday, a suicide car bomber targeted a convoy of buses transporting security personnel in Naushki, Balochistan, resulting in the deaths of five officers and injuries to ten others. Local police chief Zafar Zamanani reported that many of the wounded individuals were in critical condition and were subsequently admitted to a hospital.
Following the explosion, authorities noted that separatist militants opened fire on the buses. The outlawed Baloch Liberation Army has claimed responsibility for this violent incident. Notably, just a week prior, the group carried out an attack on a train, resulting in 26 fatalities before security forces intervened and neutralized all 33 assailants involved.
In response to the attack on Sunday, Balochistan’s chief minister, Sarfraz Bugti, confirmed that security forces retaliated and managed to kill at least four of the attackers. Balochistan, rich in oil and minerals, stands as Pakistan’s largest and sparsely populated province, where the ethnic Baloch community has long accused the central government of systemic discrimination, a claim denied by Islamabad.
This tragic attack highlights the ongoing unrest in Balochistan, fueled by separatist sentiments and grievances over perceived discrimination. The Baloch Liberation Army’s claims of responsibility reflect the persistent challenges faced by Pakistan’s security forces in maintaining order. As regional tensions escalate, the government continues to grapple with the issue of insurgency and calls for independence among the Baloch people.
