Nepal’s Foreign Minister Advocates Closer Ties With India at Raisina Dialogue

Nepal’s Foreign Minister, Arzu Rana Deuba, announced a focus on strengthening ties with India, particularly in trade and global collaboration. Attending the Raisina Dialogue, he was joined by leaders from Slovenia and Mongolia, who expressed interest in enhancing bilateral relations and investments with India. The conference emphasizes geopolitics and economic cooperation among participating countries.

On March 18, Nepal’s Foreign Minister, Arzu Rana Deuba, expressed the nation’s commitment to nurturing a closer relationship with India. He emphasized enhancing trade, particularly in energy and goods, as well as collaborating on global issues. Deuba highlighted aspirations to legalize borders and strengthen joint efforts in various domains during his remarks.

Deuba attended the Raisina Dialogue alongside other global leaders, including New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Christopher Luxon. Slovenia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Tanja Fajon, also engaged in a bilateral meeting with India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, discussing increased cooperation in science, technology, and energy.

Fajon indicated a strong interest from Slovenian companies in investing within the Indian market, noting, “We had a very fruitful discussion. India and Slovenia are developing cooperation in the fields of science, innovation, technology, and energy…” She underscored the strategic importance of India for Slovenia as a partner in the European Union.

Moreover, Mongolia’s Ambassador to India, Ganbold Dambajav, spoke of the historical ties between Mongolia and India, celebrating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations. He underscored India’s crucial role as a neighbor and expressed optimism about robust future economic cooperation between the two countries.

The Raisina Dialogue, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 17, serves as India’s premier conference focused on geopolitics and geo-economics, tackling pressing global challenges for the international community.

The discussions at the Raisina Dialogue illustrate Nepal’s intention to foster closer ties with India through enhanced trade and collaboration. Additionally, Slovenia and Mongolia highlighted their growing partnerships with India in various sectors, showcasing mutual interests in investment and cooperation.
