Iran Welcomes Peace Treaty Between Armenia and Azerbaijan

The peace agreement, finalized on Thursday, aims to resolve a conflict enduring nearly four decades between the two South Caucasus nations, with Armenia committed to relinquishing its claims over Karabakh. The Karabakh region has historically been recognized as part of Azerbaijan, and it was the focal point of two major wars occurring in 2020 and the 1990s.

On Friday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei celebrated this announcement as a crucial step toward fostering lasting peace in the South Caucasus. President Pezeshkian highlighted the strengthening relations between Iran and Armenia during his discussion with Pashinyan, urging swift execution of bilateral agreements across multiple sectors.
