Introduction of New Retail Brand “Model” in Namibia, Replacing Pick n Pay

Ohlthaver & List Group has announced that Pick n Pay Namibia will be replaced by a wholly Namibian brand called Model, starting July 1, 2025. O&L is committed to introducing innovative retail experiences and quality products, drawing on its historical roots. The transition is already in progress, with expected enhancements throughout Namibia.

Ohlthaver & List Group (O&L) revealed on Monday that as of July 1, a new, wholly Namibian brand named Model will replace Pick n Pay Namibia. O&L previously announced the termination of its franchise agreement with Pick n Pay South Africa, effective June 30, 2025, after 27 years of operation in Namibia.

Graeme Mouton, Managing Director of Model, indicated that while further specifics are currently undisclosed, the new brand will provide an innovative and engaging retail approach. He stated that consumers can expect a new standard in grocery shopping, tailored to their needs, emphasizing a unique Namibian experience.

The official launch of Model across Namibia is set for July 1, 2025. The transition is already underway, featuring a phased refurbishment intended to gradually enhance the retail experience. Mouton expressed enthusiasm, inviting Namibians to participate in the journey and teasing upcoming details about the brand.

O&L Executive Chairman Sven Thieme noted that this initiative marks a return to the company’s origins since Model dates back to 1965. Thieme stressed that this evolution is not merely a name change but a transformative movement set to redefine the shopping experience for Namibians, while ensuring consistent service and creating new growth opportunities for both employees and customers.
