In Sharg Elnil, Sudan, recently recaptured by the army from paramilitary forces, Red Crescent volunteers recovered bodies from a well, drawing attention to possible atrocities. Among the 15 deceased, many suffered gunshot wounds to the head, with indications some were alive when disposed of, reported Hisham Zain al-Abdin, director of forensic medicine for Khartoum state.

Additional bodies have been discovered scattered in various locales, including roadsides and basements, with several showing signs of having been tied up. Al-Abdin described the finding as a manifestation of horrifying events that transpired during the RSF’s control.

Since the onset of Sudan’s Civil War nearly two years ago, government forces have progressively regained territory from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The authorities are uncovering considerable evidence of killings in regions previously dominated by the RSF, which has not responded to the latest claims of misconduct. The group historically refutes allegations of systemic abuses but acknowledges individual misdeeds.
