Gamerji Expands Gaming-as-a-Service Model Across Asia and the Middle East

Gamerji, an Ahmedabad-based esports platform, is focusing on expanding its gaming-as-a-service model in India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The platform, which offers popular titles such as FIFA, Valorant, Call of Duty, and Pokémon Unite, has successfully partnered with 34 telecom companies worldwide to integrate games into telecom applications and host cross-border tournaments.
According to Sohan Thacker, the founder of Gamerji, notable partnerships include collaborating with Vodafone Idea in India, Du in the UAE, Mobily in Saudi Arabia, and Ooredoo in Qatar. These alliances have attracted 65-70 million users. The platform allows users to compete for virtual currency, which is rewarded by telcos through incentives like free data and bill discounts, thereby promoting gaming engagement via their applications.
Initially, convincing telecom companies to embrace gaming beyond traditional services was challenging. Currently, approximately 37% of Gamerji’s revenue is generated from the B2B segment with telecom providers. The MyVI app sees a few thousand daily users, while foreign telecom providers report 20,000-30,000 daily active users who exhibit greater spending potential.
Thacker identified challenges that include regional data localization mandates in gaming, as well as differences in language, cultural preferences, and diverse game popularity across regions—factors that complicate the organization of scalable cross-country tournaments.
Looking forward, Gamerji is set to enhance its focus on the listed regions while also intending to forge collaborations with federations for significant tournaments, such as the Esports Olympics and the Southeast Sports World Cup.
Gamerji is making strides in the esports landscape by advancing its gaming-as-a-service model specifically in high-potential markets such as India, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. With partnerships with key telecom entities and strategies to enhance user engagement, the platform is carving a niche in the gaming sector despite facing several regional challenges.
