First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Wins ‘Woman of The Year’ Award
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu won the Woman of the Year award at the Independent Awards 2024, honoring Nigerian women and youth. Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, has been honored with the Woman of the Year award at the Independent Awards 2024, acknowledging her dedication to Nigerian women and youth. During the gala event held in Lagos, she emphasized the substantial input of these groups in fostering national growth and progress. Represented by Hajia Fatima Tajudeen, wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs. Tinubu dedicated the award to the unsung heroes of Nigeria’s development.
In her heartfelt acceptance speech, Mrs. Tinubu expressed gratitude towards the Independent Newspaper’s board for this prestigious acknowledgment. “I receive this prestigious award with deep appreciation,” she stated, adding that it would further inspire her contributions to the nation’s progress.
The event, chaired by Chief Olabode George, also highlighted significant issues facing Nigeria, with calls for President Bola Tinubu to address the ongoing crisis in Rivers State to prevent it from escalating. George warned that neglecting these issues could lead to national instability, referencing past unrest observed throughout the country. Moreover, he urged for visible changes by the next general elections in 2027.
The gala recognized a total of 36 individuals and organizations for their noteworthy contributions to Nigeria’s development, including Governor Seyi Makinde as Independent Man of the Year and Chief Bisi Akande, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award 2024. Others honored include Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra for Urban Renewal, and various governors recognized for their economic advancements.
Entertainment also received its share of accolades, with Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, popularly known as Kiekie, awarded Social Media Influencer of the Year. Meanwhile, Otunba Mike Adenuga, Chairman of Globacom, was honored in the business category, along with Charles Odi of SMEDAN and Prof. Abayomi Fasina of FUOYE.
