Doyo Hassani Doyo, a member of the Nation League for Democracy (NLD), has officially announced his candidacy for the presidency of the United Republic of Tanzania as he prepares to challenge incumbent President Samia Suluhu Hassan and ACT-Wazalendo’s presidential contender, Dorothy Semu, in the upcoming 2025 General Election. Mr. Doyo made this declaration on March 14, 2025, during a press conference in Morogoro, outlining ten key priorities that will guide his campaign.
Among his principal priorities, Mr. Doyo emphasized addressing unemployment, enhancing education, and transforming both agriculture and livestock sectors. He also underscored the need to improve water resources, combat tax evasion, tackle corruption, and foster a culture of responsible tax compliance within the nation. His commitment to these issues reflects a deep understanding of the challenges confronting Tanzania today.
Mr. Doyo stated, “I have announced my intention to run for president in the forthcoming General Election. My priorities reflect the challenges our nation is facing. If I’m nominated as the presidential flag bearer for my party, I will focus on closing tax evasion loopholes, fighting corruption, and building a tax-paying culture at all levels of society.” Additionally, he intends to strengthen the mining sector and promote access to technology, with a special focus on girls’ education and the reinforcement of the union between Mainland Tanganyika and Zanzibar.
Supporting Mr. Doyo in his presidential aspirations is his wife, Ms. Halima Rajabu, who expressed her unwavering confidence in his leadership qualities. She highlighted employment as a critical concern for the youth and expressed optimism that health sector reforms would be prioritized under his leadership. Ms. Rajabu remarked, “Corruption is another area that needs urgent attention. I will ensure that Mr. Doyo holds accountable those who abuse their positions, especially in major government projects.”
The campaign manager, Mr. Twaha Saidi Mngatwa, confirmed that Mr. Doyo plans to submit his application for the nomination to NLD by March 21, 2025. The internal nomination process for selecting the party’s presidential candidate will occur on April 10, 2025, pending endorsement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In conclusion, Doyo Hassani Doyo has officially declared his candidacy for the presidency of Tanzania, positioning himself against the current president and other candidates in the 2025 General Election. His campaign priorities include addressing critical issues such as unemployment, education, and corruption, which resonate with the national challenges.
