Undersecretary Delmastro Strengthens Italy-Mexico Cooperation in Justice

Undersecretary Andrea Delmastro visited Mexico from March 6 to 9, 2023, to foster stronger collaboration in justice and security. From March 6 to 9, Undersecretary for Justice Andrea Delmastro conducted an extensive visit to Mexico. During his mission, he engaged with various key officials including Minister of Gobernación, Rosa Icela Rodriguez, and Undersecretary for Security, Hector Elizalde, among others. These discussions were focused on strengthening connections between Italy and Mexico in justice and security matters.

At the conclusion of the meeting at the Ministry of Security, Undersecretary Delmastro signed a Declaration of Intent which aims to bolster cooperation between the Italian Ministry of Justice, the Mexican Ministry of Security, and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (Unicri). This agreement aims at enhanced collaboration in combating organized crime, improving criminal justice, and addressing issues related to extortion and corruption.

Undersecretary Delmastro remarked, “My second mission to Mexico was aimed at agreeing with the new Mexican government authorities on the path to further strengthen the already solid cooperation between the two countries”. He underscored the strong interest from Mexican officials in adopting methodologies from Italy, which has decades of experience in countering mafias, highlighting Mexico as a stable democracy and a reliable partner.
