Pakistan Calls for Action Against Jaffar Express Attack and Addresses Human Rights Concerns

In a recent press briefing, Pakistan’s Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan urged the Afghan government to take decisive action against the perpetrators of the Jaffar Express attack that occurred in Balochistan. Khan characterized the assault on the passenger train, during which over 400 passengers were taken hostage by terrorists near Sibi, as part of a broader terrorist scheme directed from beyond Pakistan’s borders. The spokesperson highlighted the need for collaboration between the Taliban-led Afghan government and Pakistan to combat terrorism effectively.

The attack on the Jaffar Express resulted in significant casualties, with reports indicating that 21 civilians lost their lives prior to the initiation of a rescue operation by Pakistani forces, which successfully eliminated all 33 terrorists and rescued the hostages by Wednesday. Unfortunately, the operation also resulted in the deaths of four Frontier Corps personnel. The Foreign Office emphasized their commitment to protection against such acts of violence.

In addition, the spokesperson condemned Israel’s actions regarding the blockade of humanitarian aid and the suspension of electricity supplies to Gaza. He described these actions as part of a systematic campaign aimed at weaponizing aid and dehumanizing Palestinian citizens. The continuing Israeli military actions in the West Bank and Gaza were also condemned, particularly due to the resulting loss of civilian lives, including innocents.

The spokesperson called for an urgent cessation of hostilities, civilian protection, and unrestricted humanitarian access to those in need. He further called upon the international community to intervene to halt Israel’s actions and ensure accountability for any violations of human rights. Pakistan remains steadfast in its support for Palestinian rights and the quest for a sovereign Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders.

Moreover, the Foreign Office denounced India’s designation of the ‘Awami Action Committee’ and ‘Jammu and Kashmir Ittihad-ul-Muslimeen’ as ‘Unlawful Associations’ for a period of five years. This action raises the total number of banned Kashmiri political organizations to 16. The spokesperson described this move as indicative of India’s oppressive approach in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, aimed at stifling political activity and dismissing democratic norms.

Shafqat Ali Khan reiterated the importance of allowing political freedom for Kashmiris, calling for the release of political prisoners and adherence to UN Security Council resolutions concerning Jammu and Kashmir.
