Central African Republic Foreign Minister’s Visit to Morocco and Strengthening Ties

On March 12, Central African Foreign Minister Sylvie Baïpo-Temon delivered a message from President Touadéra to King Mohammed VI in Rabat. She expressed the desire to strengthen economic cooperation and security ties, thanking Morocco for its support in challenging times. On March 12, the Foreign Minister of the Central African Republic, Sylvie Baïpo-Temon, visited Rabat, where she presented a written message from President Faustin-Archange Touadéra to King Mohammed VI. This meeting underscored the valued relationship between Rabat and Bangui, with Baïpo-Temon highlighting her intent to bolster cooperation, especially in economic areas. She was accompanied by Richard Filakota, the Minister of Economy, Planning, and International Cooperation.

During a press statement, Baïpo-Temon expressed gratitude for Morocco’s support during difficult times faced by her country. She reaffirmed Bangui’s commitment to enhancing security collaboration with Morocco and commended Morocco’s role in peacekeeping operations within the Central African Republic. She noted, “the Kingdom of Morocco has always stood by the Central African Republic in the face of various common challenges”.

This visit comes after Baïpo-Temon’s last trip to Rabat in June 2024. It is noteworthy that on January 23, 2020, the Central African Republic established a consulate general in Laayoune, which was controversial and received criticism from Algeria.
