Eduardo Cerro Godinho, the former Spanish ambassador to Paraguay and Ecuador, has passed away at the age of 83, as reported by Cuban entrepreneur Miguel Ángel Alvelo Céspedes in the digital newspaper Crónicas de la Emigración. Born on September 26, 1941, in Barcelona, he earned a degree in Law and joined the Spanish Diplomatic Service in 1968.

During his diplomatic career, Ambassador Cerro held various esteemed positions, including assignments in Addis Ababa, Paris, and Peru, as well as serving at the permanent representation of Spain before the Organization of American States (OAS) and in United Nations agencies in Geneva. In 1985, he became the deputy director general of the Office of Diplomatic Information, and in 1987, he was appointed as the Spanish ambassador to Paraguay, a role he maintained until 1993 when he became consul general in Havana.

Cerro’s career continued as he served as Spain’s ambassador to Ecuador from 1997 to 2001. In 2008, he was elevated to the rank of First Class Plenipotentiary Ambassador, at the recommendation of then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Miguel Ángel Moratinos. Between 2008 and 2010, he also served as Consul General in Argentina.
