India and Mauritius Enhance Developmental Cooperation: A Milestone in Partnership

Prime Minister Modi highlighted the achievements in capacity building and the numerous projects e-inaugurated, including the Cap Malheureux Area Health Centre and 20 High Impact Community Development Projects.

The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute, funded by a grant of US$ 4.74 million under a 2017 Memorandum of Understanding, aims to enhance training for Mauritian civil servants across various governmental sectors. Prime Minister Modi announced additional initiatives, including the construction of a new Parliament building, modernization of a 100 km water pipeline, and the launch of new community development projects worth 500 million Mauritian Rupees. Furthermore, plans to train 500 Mauritian civil servants in India over the next five years were also shared.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the cultural and traditional bonds between India and Mauritius, proclaiming, “We are partners on the journey to economic and social development.” He reiterated India’s support during natural disasters, notably the COVID-19 pandemic, stating that their partnership extends to all sectors, including security, education, healthcare, and space.

He pointed out people-centric initiatives achieved with Indian cooperation, such as the Metro Express, the Supreme Court Building, social housing, an ENT Hospital, the implementation of UPI and the RuPay Card, and the establishment of Jan Aushadhi Kendras. The improvements in air and sea connectivity to Agaléga Island were also noted, highlighting their significance in delivering humanitarian assistance during emergencies, especially during Cyclone Chido.
