Ghana and Czech Republic Strengthen Bilateral Relations and Internal Security Initiatives

The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, recently welcomed H.E. Pavel Bílek, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Ghana, during a courtesy call intended to enhance the bilateral ties between their nations. The discussions centered around key areas for collaboration, particularly in utilizing technology to improve the Ghana Prisons Service and the National Commission of Small Arms and Light Weapons.

Additionally, they identified potential advancements in the Prisons Agriculture Project, modernization efforts for the Ghana National Fire Service, and improving border management. This meeting underlined the strong diplomatic relationship that exists between Ghana and the Czech Republic, creating pathways for future cooperation that will benefit both countries.

In a separate initiative, Minister Mohammed-Mubarak convened with Christian clerics in Accra to address the pivotal role they have in fostering peace and security. He emphasized the necessity for unity to confront various forms of insecurity affecting the nation, including escalating chieftaincy disputes and incidents of vigilantism. As of February 2025, there are 11 curfews in place across Ghana to combat these issues.

The Minister proposed a comprehensive plan consisting of community initiatives aimed at promoting social cohesion, collaborative strategies to address the root causes of conflict, and improved responses to emerging security threats. He expressed concern over drug abuse among the youth, which threatens societal stability, calling upon religious leaders to assist in public education and peace promotion efforts to mitigate this crisis.

Hon. Muntaka assured the clerics of the Government’s commitment to empowering their initiatives and providing necessary resources to ensure effective security measures throughout Ghana. He thanked the attendees for their participation, emphasizing the importance of a stronger partnership in enhancing national security.

The Christian Council of Ghana, along with representatives from various religious organizations, commended the Minister for his proactive stance and expressed their support for his initiatives. They pledged to collaborate with the Ministry of the Interior to uphold peace and security within the country.
