Tunisian Ambassador to China Seeks Enhanced Strategic Cooperation

Everybody knows the political and economic importance of such a country… and also in peace, stability, and development in the world.”

In discussing the Chinese government work report, Ambassador Elarbi expressed his keen interest in the economic and political relations between China and other nations. He reflected on the longstanding friendship between Tunisia and China, celebrating the upcoming 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relationship in 2024, which will include a visit from Tunisian President Kais Saied.

Elarbi articulated Tunisia’s desire to enhance cooperation with China at strategic levels, particularly through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). He voiced optimism that BRI can facilitate progress in infrastructure, green technologies, and scientific endeavors, while also fulfilling the aspirations of the people in the participating nations.

The ambassador encouraged Chinese businesses to consider investments in Tunisia, highlighting the country’s potential as an entry point to African, Arab, and European Union markets. He referenced an influential African proverb: “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together,” which he believes underscores the importance of cooperation.

Concluding his remarks, Elarbi stated, “If we walk together, we can discover more… I can learn from my Chinese friends, and the Chinese friends can see another way of thinking from me. So we can progress more.”
