Significant Support for Cancer Patients in Zimbabwe Through Collaborative Initiatives
Zimbabwe’s cancer patients, especially children, have received vital support from two banks and a leading supermarket, with significant donations toward chemotherapy drugs and financial assistance. A campaign linked to CABS and TM Pick n Pay has yielded substantial funds, showcasing the power of partnerships in addressing cancer care needs.
Cancer patients in Zimbabwe, especially children, are set to benefit from generous contributions made by two banks and a prominent supermarket chain, which have donated both chemotherapy drugs and financial assistance to two cancer care organizations. CABS Chief Financial Officer Valerie Muyambo highlighted the profound impact of cancer on local families and stressed the necessity for children to not face this challenge alone. She acknowledged organizations like KidzCan for providing crucial medication and emotional support to affected families during trying times.
This marks the second year of collaboration between CABS and TM Pick n Pay in their mission to combat childhood cancer. In a campaign launched in February, CABS committed to donating funds in proportion to customer transactions made via their POS machines in TM Pick n Pay stores. As a result, CABS successfully donated US$30,000 for chemotherapy medications. Muyambo expressed gratitude for the synergy between the organizations, emphasizing their collective ability to significantly impact children facing cancer.
TM Pick n Pay’s Chief Financial Officer Gamu Nyamuzinga announced an additional US$80,000 worth of medication, with US$50,000 from TM Pick n Pay and US$30,000 from CABS. He stated, “This collaboration exemplifies what we can achieve when we work together for a common cause,” highlighting that the supplies would ensure affected children receive their necessary chemotherapy treatments. Furthermore, an extra US$30,000 was earmarked for child welfare, allocated for food and transport costs to assist families in reaching treatment centers without financial barriers.
In a different event at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, First Capital Bank’s Chief Executive Officer Tapera Mushoriwa reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cancer care and aiding underprivileged communities. Anna Nyakabau, a representative from Cancerserve Trust, echoed the sentiment for unified efforts against cancer, calling for more organizations to engage in initiatives that advance cancer therapy and care across Zimbabwe.
The collaborative efforts between CABS, TM Pick n Pay, and First Capital Bank exemplify the significant contributions that can be made to support cancer patients and their families in Zimbabwe. The donations of chemotherapy drugs and financial assistance underscore the importance of community involvement and partnership in addressing healthcare challenges. As expressed by leaders of the respective organizations, collective action is essential to ensure that no child faces cancer alone.
