Iraq’s 2025 Budget Set for Parliamentary Submission Before March Ends

Iraq’s 2025 budget is on track to be submitted to Parliament by the end of March, following an agreement among the finance committees and government officials. The Ministry of Finance will present budget tables to the Council of Ministers before forwarding them to Parliament, expected before Ramadan ends.

The Iraqi government is on track to submit the 2025 budget to Parliament before the end of March, reaching a governmental-parliamentary consensus, as confirmed by a senior official. Mudher Mohammad Saleh, the financial and Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister, informed the Shafaq News Agency about the agreement among the Parliamentary Finance Committee, the Council of Ministers, and the Ministry of Finance regarding the budget details.

According to Saleh, Article 77/Second of the 2023 General Budget Law mandates that the Ministry of Finance present the budget schedules annually, including modifications to both operating and capital expenditures. He explained that the ministry will first submit the 2025 budget tables to the Council of Ministers for evaluation and endorsement prior to passing them on to Parliament.

Furthermore, Saleh indicated that the budget schedules are anticipated to reach Parliament before the conclusion of Ramadan, which aligns with the end of March. This sentiment was echoed by an MP from the Shiite Coordination Framework, who stated that the Ministry of Finance plans to send the budget tables to the Cabinet for discussion and voting within the week.

In summary, Iraq’s 2025 budget is set to be presented to Parliament by the end of March, following a consensus among key governmental bodies. The submission process will involve discussions within the Council of Ministers, ensuring that the necessary amendments to expenditures are included. The timely arrival of these budget tables before Ramadan’s conclusion reflects the government’s commitment to financial planning and transparency.
