The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has expressed serious concern regarding the escalating tensions and armed conflicts in Nasir County, South Sudan. H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, IGAD’s Executive Secretary, indicated that these incidents threaten the significant progress made towards the implementation of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) and jeopardize peace within the nation.

Dr. Workneh has urged all involved parties to maintain maximum restraint and recommit to the R-ARCSS, emphasizing that dialogue and reconciliation are essential for sustainable peace. He calls on the Government of South Sudan, local authorities, and relevant stakeholders to enhance their efforts in de-escalating tension and ensuring civilian protection, thereby promoting regional stability.

In light of these developments, IGAD plans to send a high-level delegation to assess the ground situation and collaborate with the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (RTGoNU) to implement measures aimed at restoring peace and advancing the ongoing peace process.
