Hezbollah Reinforces Commitment to Evict Israeli Forces from Lebanon

Hezbollah Secretary General Naim Qassem has reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to eliminating any Israeli presence in southern Lebanon, underscoring its strength and dedication to national defense. In an interview with al-Manar TV, Qassem mentioned that while Hezbollah ceased active operations during the ceasefire, it has retained full military readiness. He highlighted that numerous Israeli violations have occurred in the past sixty days, stressing the necessity for Israel to withdraw beyond the Litani River as stipulated in the ceasefire agreement.

On local issues, Qassem voiced Hezbollah’s support for national stability and governance by endorsing the authority of security forces in maintaining internal security. Nevertheless, he argued that Hezbollah’s arms remain essential for confronting Israel, asserting that “Israel poses an existential threat, and resistance is Lebanon’s right.”

Additionally, Qassem spoke on the subject of Lebanon’s reconstruction, stating that rebuilding the war-affected areas falls within the state’s responsibilities. He emphasized the need for Hezbollah’s ongoing role in both political and military spheres, declaring that the “resistance” will continue as long as threats from Israel persist. Under the ceasefire agreement reached on November 27, 2024, hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah had ceased, though the Israeli forces’ withdrawal from southern Lebanon has been incomplete.

Despite the ceasefire, incidents of conflict still arise, such as the recent violent exchanges that occurred on Sunday. Official Lebanese sources reported that Israeli gunfire injured a Lebanese soldier and a civilian near Kafr Kila. In separate reports, the Public Health Emergency Operations Center confirmed that a civilian was critically wounded. Another incident involving an explosive device also resulted in injuries, following the IDF’s claims of needing to address threats posed by Hezbollah.
