Upcoming DEVE Delegation to Tanzania: Assessing EU Development Initiatives

A delegation from the European Parliament’s Development Committee (DEVE) is set to visit Tanzania from February 24 to 26, 2025. Led by Chair Barry Andrews, this group of seven Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) aims to acquire first-hand insights into various Global Gateway initiatives and assess their effects on local communities and economies.

The primary focus of the MEPs will be to evaluate the impact of EU investments in Tanzania, particularly regarding the EU’s flagship Global Gateway initiative and specific sector projects. Throughout their three-day mission, the delegation will engage with various initiatives that address crucial issues such as water and sanitation, economic development, port infrastructure, gender equality, education, and sustainable fishing practices.

In addition, the MEPs will conduct meetings with Tanzanian government ministers, EU diplomatic missions, UN agencies, development banks, and local civil society representatives. Discussions will encompass vital topics, including sustainable development, inter-parliamentary collaboration, and human rights advocacy, enhancing dialogue on these pressing matters in the region.
