This initiative was discussed in a recent government cabinet meeting, led by Prime Minister Kamel Madouri, which focused on the strategic planning of the phosphate sector for the period between 2025 and 2030.

During this meeting, a comprehensive program was approved concerning the production, transport, and processing of phosphates. Essential monitoring mechanisms were established to ensure the implementation of these initiatives. Key decisions made include the upgrading of sulfuric acid units and improving their operational readiness along with the implementation of a maintenance program for heavy machinery and trucks.

Furthermore, Tunisia has announced the establishment of a new industrial unit in Skhira, which will produce finely ground single superphosphate and granulated calcium phosphate, with an expected annual capacity of 250,000 tonnes. Additionally, another industrial unit for purified phosphoric acid production will be created in Skhira, with an anticipated capacity of 60,000 tonnes per year, alongside a cadmium removal unit in M’dhilla designed to purify phosphoric acid, also with a capacity of 180,000 tonnes annually.

The government also outlined plans for the development of green ammonia projects and the introduction of tax incentives, among other supportive measures aimed at fostering growth in the phosphate sector. This approach reflects Tunisia’s commitment to improving its industrial capacity and productivity in the phosphate industry.
