Vietnam and Kenya Strengthen Diplomatic and Economic Ties
Vietnam and Kenya aim to deepen bilateral ties with a focus on economic cooperation, highlighted by Ambassador Vũ Thanh Huyền’s recent visit and discussions with Kenyan officials. An invitation was extended to President Ruto for a future visit to Vietnam, emphasizing the potential for strengthened partnerships.
Vietnam and Kenya are poised to strengthen their diplomatic and economic partnership with a reaffirmed commitment from Vietnamese Ambassador Vũ Thanh Huyền. She presented her letter of credence to Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto in Nairobi on March 5. During this meeting, Ambassador Huyền emphasized the need for rapid appointments of honorary consuls in both countries to facilitate trade and economic collaboration.
Ambassador Huyền also conveyed an invitation on behalf of Vietnamese State President Lương Cường for President Ruto to visit Vietnam to attend the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 Summit, which is scheduled in Hanoi in April 2025. President Ruto acknowledged the deepening friendship between the two nations and expressed confidence that Ambassador Huyền would significantly contribute to strengthening their partnership.
In meetings with Ambassador Eliphas Brine, Director-General for Political and Diplomatic Affairs at Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Huyền emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation through exchanges of delegations and better coordination between their foreign ministries. This discussion followed the successful visit to Kenya by Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyễn Minh Hằng in February.
Ambassador Brine concurred on the necessity to increase delegation exchanges and bolster bilateral cooperation, pledging mutual support in various multilateral forums. In addition to her diplomatic agendas, Ambassador Huyền also met various ambassadors from ASEAN member countries during her visit to Kenya.
Vietnam and Kenya established diplomatic relations on December 21, 1995, marking over two decades of commitment to fostering mutual ties and collaboration.
