Ibrahim Hussaini, the Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), reported that the incident transpired on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m.
The explosion was triggered when a tanker truck, which was transporting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), lost control on a poorly maintained road. The contents of the tanker spilled into a nearby stream where local farmers were working in their rice fields. Hussaini noted that the spilled fuel subsequently ignited, leading to a catastrophic explosion.
The intense fire consumed the farmland, obliterating the entirety of the rice field as well as the surrounding fruits and vegetation. At the time of the report, seven individuals had lost their lives, while one person, identified as Maimuna Isah, sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention at Saho Rami Primary Health Care.
