Iraq ranks 12th in the Arab world and 107th globally in AI readiness, scoring 40.91 out of 100. It plans to develop a national AI strategy focused on integration and knowledge-building by July 2024, amid leading nations like the US and UAE.
Iraq has been positioned 107th globally and 12th in the Arab world in the Government AI Readiness Index for 2024, as reported by Oxford Insights. This assessment includes 188 countries and evaluates AI readiness through 40 indicators across three main areas: government, technology sector, and data & infrastructure. Iraq achieved a score of 40.91 out of 100, breaking down to 32 points for government readiness, 35.87 for the technology sector, and 54.25 for data and infrastructure.
In the Arab region, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the leader with a score of 75.66, followed by Saudi Arabia with 72, Qatar with 68, Oman with 62, and Jordan with 61 points. Egypt secured the sixth position with 59 points, ahead of Bahrain (54), Kuwait (51), Lebanon (46), Tunisia (43), and Morocco (41).
On a global scale, the United States ranks first with a score of 87 points, succeeded by Singapore with 84 and France with 79. In an effort to advance AI implementation, Iraq’s Office of the Prime Minister’s Advisor announced plans to establish a comprehensive national AI strategy, which is to be unveiled in July 2024 and focuses on education and the integration of AI technologies.
