Danish Embassy Collaborates with Ghana on Wastewater Management and Security Issues
The Royal Danish Embassy has engaged with Ghana’s Ministry of Local Government to discuss wastewater management and address significant water-related concerns. Ambassador Tom Norring emphasized Denmark’s expertise and commitment to sustainable water solutions. Minister Ahmed Ibrahim highlighted ongoing collaborative projects aimed at improving sanitation and governance in Ghana, along with efforts to tackle regional security challenges.
The Royal Danish Embassy has conducted a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs in Ghana to address wastewater management and related water concerns. Ambassador Tom Norring emphasized Denmark’s expertise in this area and the importance of keeping water clean throughout its lifecycle.
Ambassador Norring articulated Denmark’s dedication to sustainable water management, stating, “We must find sustainable solutions to ensure that water is managed effectively and can be safely reintroduced into circulation.” He reinforced Denmark’s long-standing partnership with Ghana, underscoring both nations’ shared commitment to addressing regional security issues, including maritime insecurity and the threat of terrorism.
The Minister of Local Government, Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim, reflected on decades of collaboration between Denmark and Ghana across various sectors, facilitated by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA). He highlighted interventions such as the Danish Support to District Assemblies and the Local Service Delivery and Governance Programme, which aim to improve sanitation and local governance.
Currently, the Embassy is working with the Tema Metropolitan Assembly to manage the Central Sewerage System effectively, which faces challenges due to population growth and waste disposal issues. Minister Ibrahim noted ongoing efforts to enhance the capabilities of local governments through future programs, emphasizing the importance of improving sanitation and environmental sustainability.
The engagement between the Danish Embassy and Ghana’s Ministry of Local Government is pivotal for enhancing wastewater management and addressing broader water-related issues. With over 40 years of collaborative efforts, both countries aim to build sustainable solutions that ensure effective water management, tackle security challenges, and enhance local governance through ongoing programs and initiatives.
