Ghana will host Mining in Motion from June 2-4, 2025, uniting small-scale miners, policymakers, and global experts under the theme of Sustainable Mining. This event will spotlight the economic importance of ASGM, which generated over US$5 billion in export revenue in 2024. Prominent figures will discuss the role of responsible mining, enhancing local employment, and sustaining industry growth amid expanding mining projects.

Ghana is hosting its premier event, from June 2-4, 2025, at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra, focusing on small-scale gold miners, policymakers, and global partners. The theme, “Sustainable Mining & Local Growth – Leveraging Resources for Global Impact,” encompasses high-level discussions, project showcases, and networking aimed at uncovering opportunities within Ghana’s mining sector.

Prominent industry leaders and sustainability experts, including representatives from the World Bank, World Gold Council, the United Nations, African Union, and ECOWAS, will discuss the role of responsible mining in fostering economic growth, enhancing community welfare, and achieving global stability. The dialogue will center on the financial benefits of mining investments, their capacity to create jobs, and bolster industries connected to the sector.

Mining is being prioritized by Ghana as a fundamental driver of socioeconomic development. The focus is on enhancing the role of artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM), which contributed over US$5 billion in export revenue in 2024 and represented 35% of the nation’s gold production. The sector supports over one million jobs directly and has an indirect impact on four million individuals, rendering it a vital source of employment in the country. The event, titled Mining in Motion, will showcase Ghana’s model of sustainable artisanal mining, emphasizing its contributions to economic stability and community development.

Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II, the King of the Ashanti Kingdom, will address the crucial role of traditional leadership in the ASGM industry. Hot topics will include the newly created Gold Board, which aims to optimize revenue from ASGM, promote responsible resource management, and increase value addition within the sector.

The contributions from stakeholders throughout the mining value chain significantly enhance GDP growth. According to projections by the International Monetary Fund, Ghana’s GDP is expected to rise by 1.5% in 2025, supported by continued growth in mining. Deloitte estimates a 3% increase in gold output for 2025 compared to 2024, further establishing Ghana’s position as a leading gold exporter. To sustain this momentum, the government is fortifying partnerships with global exploration and production companies, enhancing efforts in mineral exploration and production.

Several pivotal projects are anticipated for commissioning in 2025 and 2026, including the 358,000-ounce-per-annum Cardinal Namdini Mine, the 325,000-ounce Ahafo North Project, and the 163,000-ounce Black Volta Gold Project. As Ghana extends its global mining influence, Mining in Motion will spotlight the sector’s contributions to local and international economic growth.

H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, will share the nation’s socioeconomic vision and highlight achievements in mining growth and sustainability initiatives. Industry leaders will also explore the synergy between large-scale mining firms and ASGM stakeholders to drive sector-wide growth.
