Security Breach During S. Jaishankar’s UK Visit Highlights Kashmir Tensions
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar faced a security breach during his UK visit, where a pro-Khalistani extremist tore the Indian flag. The incident occurred post-discussion at Chatham House. Jaishankar defended India’s Kashmir stance, advocating for sovereignty and economic development while addressing the need to reclaim territories occupied by Pakistan.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is presently on an official visit to the United Kingdom from March 4 to March 9. During this time, a pro-Khalistani extremist breached his security by rushing towards the minister’s vehicle and tearing the Indian flag, despite the presence of law enforcement officers. The incident occurred as Jaishankar was departing from Chatham House after a scheduled discussion.
A video circulating on social media captures the moment as the protester swiftly approached Jaishankar’s convoy and tore the tricolor, while other extremists shouted slogans nearby. Following a brief delay, police intervened to remove the individual and his accomplices from the scene. Another video shared by ANI showcases the group of pro-Khalistan activists demonstrating outside the Chatham House, brandishing flags and chanting pro-Khalistan chants.
In addition to the security breach, Jaishankar engaged in important diplomatic discussions during his UK visit. At Chevening House, he met with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, where they discussed various topics including strategic cooperation, trade negotiations, education, and technology.
At Chatham House, Jaishankar emphasized India’s stance on the Kashmir issue, firmly denying the necessity for third-party mediation. He highlighted measures implemented by India regarding Kashmir, such as the abrogation of Article 370 and promoting economic development, while stressing the importance of reclaiming territories currently occupied by Pakistan. “I think the part we are waiting for is the return of the stolen part of Kashmir, which is under an illegal Pakistani occupation. When that’s done, I assure you, Kashmir solved,” Jaishankar articulated.
The recent breach of security during Minister Jaishankar’s visit highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding the Khalistani movement. Furthermore, Jaishankar’s discussions reinforced India’s commitment to its Kashmir policy without external intervention. His statements serve to clarify India’s position and the actions already taken to address regional concerns, while also indicating the unresolved issues related to Pakistani-occupied territories.
