Qatar Cabinet Approves New Laws and Discusses Regional Peace Initiatives

The Qatari Cabinet held a meeting focusing on the outcomes of the Extraordinary Arab Summit, emphasizing support for Palestinians and the Gaza Strip. It approved a draft law on lost property and unclaimed money, as well as strategic initiatives for the Ministry of Justice and National Archives. On Wednesday, the Qatari Cabinet convened under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. The Cabinet expressed optimism regarding the outcomes of the recent Extraordinary Arab Summit in Cairo, focusing on efforts to support Palestinian citizens, end the war in Gaza, and facilitate the rebuilding of the affected areas. They emphasized the importance of achieving lasting peace and restoring Palestinian rights, particularly the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

During the meeting, the Cabinet approved several significant measures, including a draft law related to lost property and unclaimed money. This law aims to regulate the handling of such items, promote return to rightful owners, and encourage finders to report lost items. Additionally, they considered a draft law concerning ministers, which will also be referred to the Shura Council.

The Cabinet commended the initiation of the Ministry of Justice’s Strategy (2025-2030), designed to enhance the legal sector by improving judicial services and fostering partnerships among legal professionals. They aim for sustainable economic development and an upgrade of judicial competencies in the country. Furthermore, the Cabinet praised the National Archives of Qatar Strategy (2025-2030) for its focus on preserving historical documentation and enhancing public awareness through digitization.

In other actions, the Cabinet approved a resolution concerning preventative measures for public electrical and water facilities, following Law No. (13) of 2024, aimed at ensuring operational safety at relevant sites. Agreements were also ratified concerning the employment of Sierra Leonean workers in Qatar and a memorandum of understanding with Uzbekistan’s General Prosecutor’s Office to combat money laundering. The meeting concluded with reviews of reports related to Qatar’s participation in various international conferences.
