Nigeria Confirms Remita as Payment Gateway Amid Integration with TMRAS

The OAGF has confirmed that Remita remains as the approved payment gateway and will be integrated into the Treasury Management and Revenue Assurance System (TMRAS). This move aims to incorporate other Payment Solution Service Providers (PSSPs) to improve government revenue collection while ensuring continued support for Remita over the next two months. TMRAS commenced operations on March 4, guided by directives from President Tinubu and the Minister of Finance.

The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has affirmed that the Federal Government has not replaced Remita as the sanctioned payment gateway by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Bawa Mokwa, the Director for Press and Public Relations, clarified that Remita will be incorporated into the new Treasury Management and Revenue Assurance System (TMRAS). This integration aims to incorporate other qualified Payment Solution Service Providers (PSSPs) to enhance revenue collection and remittances for the government.

Mokwa stated that TMRAS commenced operations on March 4. The new system was developed under the directives of President Bola Tinubu and Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. The goal of TMRAS is to ensure effective treasury revenue assurance and to improve budget performance across all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and Federal Government-Owned Enterprises (FGOEs).

The TMRAS is intended to coordinate, streamline, and manage revenue collections and payments for the Federal Government’s various entities. Mokwa emphasized that this system would facilitate the liberalization of government revenue payment processes and enhance efficiency in revenue collection, while enabling timely analysis of transaction data.

Mokwa noted that while Remita is a secure platform for revenue payments, other secure avenues will now be permitted to connect through TMRAS, allowing various CBN-licensed PSSPs to operate alongside Remita. He further confirmed that Remita remains the only approved payment gateway for Federal Government transactions and revenue collection for a period of at least two months, with ongoing efforts to expand the system.

To all revenue payers and the general public, Mokwa urged continued use of Remita and recommended visiting www.fgntreasury.gov.ng for all Federal Government payments.

The Federal Government has clarified that Remita will not be discarded but integrated into the new Treasury Management and Revenue Assurance System (TMRAS). This system aims to streamline revenue collection while incorporating other licensed PSSPs. Remita remains crucial for Federal Government payments, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing its financial infrastructure.
