MEA Condemns Security Breach During Jaishankar’s UK Visit
The MEA condemned the security breach during S. Jaishankar’s UK visit, highlighting the actions of a small group of extremists. Jaishankar discussed significant topics including tariff policies and India’s global role, and conveyed greetings from Prime Minister Modi to the UK Prime Minister. The MEA expects host nations to uphold diplomatic obligations.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) recently addressed a security breach that occurred during External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s visit to the United Kingdom. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed condemnation for the actions of a small group of separatists and extremists who engaged in provocative demonstrations outside Chatham House in London. The event marked Jaishankar’s participation in a discussion titled ‘India’s rise and role in the world.’
In their official statement, the MEA stated, “We have seen the footage of a breach of security during the visit of EAM to the UK. We condemn the provocative activities of this small group of separatists and extremists. We deplore the misuse of democratic freedoms by such elements. We expect the host government in such cases to fully live up to their diplomatic obligations.”
During the session, Jaishankar addressed various significant international issues. When questioned about President Trump’s tariffs, he commented, “We see a president and an administration which, in our parlance, is moving towards multipolarity, and that is something that suits India.” He further noted that Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is in Washington to negotiate a bilateral trade pact following discussions between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump.
Prior to the session, Jaishankar visited British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street, delivering “warm greetings” from Prime Minister Modi. The dialogue encompassed bilateral cooperation and the UK’s approach to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The MEA’s response to the security breach during S. Jaishankar’s visit underscores the importance of diplomatic safety and the challenges posed by extreme groups. Jaishankar’s discussions during the visit highlighted India’s positioning in a multipolar world and ongoing trade relations with the United States. The visit further reinforced India-UK ties amid current global conflicts.
