During a courtesy visit, Kenya’s High Commissioner Joash Maangi met Uganda’s CDF, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, addressing recent disrespectful media coverage. The Kenyan delegation clarified their government’s non-involvement and expressed apologies. Both leaders emphasized the importance of mutual respect and historical ties between Uganda and Kenya, concluding with a symbolic exchange of gifts.
His Excellency Joash Maangi, the Kenya High Commissioner to Uganda, conducted a courtesy visit to General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), this afternoon. Accompanied by Colonel Patrick Kaduda, Kenya’s Defence Attaché to Uganda, and several senior Kenyan officials, the meeting included Brigadier General Paul Namawa, the Special Forces Command Chief of Staff, and Colonel Christopher Muwumba, the CDF’s Military Assistant.
The meeting was held at the SFC Headquarters in Entebbe, where Ambassador Maangi expressed gratitude to General Kainerugaba for accommodating him and his delegation. This visit follows a controversial article published in The Standard, a Kenyan newspaper, which was deemed disrespectful toward Uganda’s CDF. During discussions, the Kenyan delegation clarified that the Kenya government had no ties to the article’s publication and offered an apology for its content.
The offending newspaper subsequently issued a formal apology on social media, recognizing General Kainerugaba’s notable military contributions and achievements. General Kainerugaba reiterated the importance of maintaining the historical ties between Uganda and Kenya, asserting that no issues, regardless of their nature, should detract from their longstanding relationship. He emphasized mutual respect and dignity for the leaders of both nations.
The meeting culminated in a ceremonial exchange of gifts, whereby Ambassador Maangi presented traditional Kenyan attire and a lion sculpture, gifts from Kenya’s CDF, General Charles Kahiriri. In reciprocation, General Kainerugaba gifted the delegation a copy of the President’s autobiography, a book highlighting Uganda’s tourism attractions, along with Ugandan coffee.
The meeting between General Muhoozi Kainerugaba and His Excellency Joash Maangi addressed the fallout from a disrespectful article in a Kenyan newspaper. It emphasized the commitment of both nations to uphold mutual respect and the strong historical bond between Uganda and Kenya. The exchange of gifts marked a gesture of goodwill and reaffirmation of diplomatic ties, illustrating a shared dedication to maintaining a peaceful and respectful relationship.
